Ground Anchor Information
Ground Anchor (Stake) verses Ground Socket
A Ground Anchor is a steel stake that needs to be placed into the ground via digging a hole and cementing the anchor into the ground. Depending on the height of the pole you purchase your ground anchor may be 18 - 24 inches above ground (overall length of stake is 48 - 57 inches). You should also fill the hollow ground anchor with cement as this gives the anchor added strength plus it keeps the water out of the anchor, which during the northern states winter months could freeze and cause damage to the anchor. ALL of our Gourd Racks and Multi-Purpose Poles use ground anchors.
A Ground Anchor gives added strength to a pole. Consider this: When winds are blowing there is a lot of force at the top of your pole. This force travels down the pole placing stress at the point where your ground anchor comes out of the ground. This anchor, when installed as instructed, helps conteract these high winds, which keeps your pole standing.
A Ground Socket is generally a sleeve that is placed into the ground and your pole slides down and into the socket. Our Bed and Breakfast uses this concept.
